Kimberley North Star Racers & All Mountain Program

The Program is happy to offer to 2010 - 2011 KNSR / AMP members the opportunity to attend a four-day camp in Mt. Hood Oregon August 28 - 31. Travel days August 27 and September 1st.

The four-day camp will focus on skill enhancement in an open and duster / stubbie gate environment, as well as a bump environment if conditions permit. This camp is open to all ages of kids, although due to the conditions on the snowfield at that time of year, athletes younger than 11 years old will be selected on basis of skiing skills.

The skiing session will run from 7:30 a.m. to approximately 12:30 p.m. depending upon the weather conditions on a day-by-day basis. At this time, we plan to offer afternoon dryland activities suitable for the age groups and interests attending the camp.

At this time of the season, the skiing is performed within given lanes. The snow is cat-groomed with salt, as well as hand salted by coaches in the morning. The slope available at this time of the summer is of a steeper nature, with a slight sidehill for most of the lanes. Athletes need to be aware that unlike our winter skiing, the environment is highly restrictive for any activities other than those planned in the lane by the coaches.

At this time costs are based upon eight athletes attending - this cost will decline as coaches costs are divided between more athletes. We will have no less than 2 coaches, with a 2:8 - 1:8 ratio up to 16 athletes. The estimated cost (based on typical camp design) for eight athletes will be $844.00 for the camp not including travel costs. Again, this cost will decrease with each athlete over the minimum eight required.

At this time we propose that if you are interested in attending the camp, please contact N. O’Neill. Once we determine the numbers for the camp, we will then discuss a variety of options to cut costs in terms of accommodation, meals, and travel. These options range from families camping and traveling independently, to a group van using Mt. Hood Government Camp housing facilities.

For those not familiar with the Mt. Hood area, this is a popular area for activities from windsurfing (Hood River “The Gorge”), golfing, cycling, hiking, etc. All these activities are within a one hour radius from Government Camp at Mt. Hood.

Last day: Evening, August 5th
